A Summer Escape: From Pastoral Landscapes to Romanian Rhapsodies
Step away from the pace of city life and immerse yourself in an evening of musical landscapes, lyrical beauty, and vibrant orchestral colour with the Holborn Community Orchestra, conducted by William Birkbeck.
At the heart of the programme is Beethoven’s beloved “Pastoral” Symphony, a masterpiece that captures the serenity, wonder, and joy of the countryside. From sunlit meadows and flowing streams to moments of reflection and celebration, Beethoven’s music invites listeners on a deeply uplifting journey through nature. Complementing this are two of Delius’s most evocative works: On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring, a gentle awakening of the natural world, and A Walk to the Paradise Garden, a glowing meditation of tenderness and longing. Finally, there is the spirited energy and rich folk-inspired colours of Enescu’s Romanian Rhapsody No. 2, transporting audiences to the heart of rural Romania.
Performed by the accomplished musicians of the Holborn Community Orchestra, this carefully curated programme promises warmth, imagination, and musical storytelling at its finest. Arrive early to enjoy summer drinks and desserts from 4.15pm before the concert begins.
